We are Centenary Evangelical Church

Centenary Evangelical Church launched in 2023 with a desire to see more and more people come to know and grow in the life-changing Good News of Jesus!

We are a Jesus-loving, Bible-believing, multicultural church that meets in the Centenary suburbs of Brisbane, Australia.

We aren’t all 'put together' or perfect, but by God’s grace we get to know and serve a God who is. That’s why we want others to know Him too!

Our prayer and vision is for Centenary Evangelical Church to be

a church filled with Christians devoted to helping each other trust in and live for Jesus, and to helping more people come to know and follow Jesus in the Centenary suburbs and beyond.

Our core values

First and foremost, Jesus Christ and His gospel must be at the centre of this church because Jesus Christ and the gospel is at the centre of God’s eternal plans. At the heart of God’s plan is the gospel of Jesus’ life, death, resurrection and reign.

And so, Centenary Evangelical Church values the centrality of Christ and the gospel. This will be seen in:

Our CONTENT: Christ and His gospel is what God’s word is ultimately about and so will inform all of the teaching in this church.

Our CONVICTIONS: Christ and His gospel is central to God’s purposes, so it should be central to ours, shaping and driving all that we do and pursue as a church.

Our CHARACTER: Christ and His gospel saves us for and shows us what it means to be human, to live in godliness and Christ-like character in the church and in the world.

Our COMMISSION: Just as Jesus was sent by God to secure salvation for sinners and to bring them under His blessed rule, so we as Christians and as the church are commissioned to do the same, making disciples of Christ from all nations.

A church that has Christ and His gospel at the centre… glorifies God!

It is vitally important that Centenary Evangelical Church expresses being Christ’s community. As those grounded in the common faith, we express that in unity of relationship and purpose. We strive to be a church committed to whole-hearted devotion to our Lord Jesus Christ, living in joyful obedience to Jesus and in genuine love for one another. This unity can only be achieved by having God’s Word as our rule and guide, with a growing desire to open our hearts and lives to each other and being committed to work through differences and conflicts that arise.

It is also vitally important that we are Christ’s community within the local community. We strive to be a community of light that shines brightly in this community and world living in darkness.

A church united in faith and love, shining as a light to the world… glorifies God!

Compassion is a word that carries more than just a sense of passing pity, but a depth of concern that compels one to action. It’s the emotion most frequently attributed to Jesus during His days on earth. It’s an attribute that is core to God’s being and glory.

At Centenary Evangelical Church we believe that the greatest need of those we encounter is reconciliation with God through Jesus. It’s this need that most deeply compels us to action - but it’s not only this need that compels us to action. Because we know God is concerned for daily and eternal needs, we are intentional about taking steps to know, understand and minister into the daily and eternal needs of our community.

A church that displays Christ’s own heart of Compassion ...glorifies God!

The great commission given by Jesus sets for us our ‘core business’: discipleship. ‘Discipleship’ describes the entire process of people moving towards Jesus Christ: moving from unbelief to belief, belief to maturity, and maturity to multiplying. ‘Discipleship’ describes an all of life transformation of head, heart and hands.

Centenary Evangelical Church will be devoted to seeing people move towards Christ. Each member of the church will be involved in ‘discipleship’ in some way: whether it is being grown as a disciple, helping others become disciples, and/or training disciples in the church to become disciple makers.

A church of people moving more and more towards maturity in Christ… glorifies God!

God is the creator and sustainer of all things. The Lord Jesus Christ has been given all authority in heaven and on earth – He is the sovereign King. God is in control. God is the one who changes hearts, minds and lives. We are finite and frail. We are certainly not in control and powerless to effect change.

God graciously invites us to depend on him for all things: from the smallest daily concerns and needs, to eternity-scale purposes and plans of God to be fulfilled, and everything in between.

We will strive to be a church that humbly prays for all that we need and a church that is always in thanksgiving for God’s faithfulness and unfailing provision.

A humble and dependant people, always thankful and relying on God… glorifies God!

At Centenary Evangelical Church we recognise that we are not the Kingdom of God, but a community of those graciously brought into the Kingdom by God. The generosity of God, the glory of His Kingdom, and the Gospel itself call us to a Kingdom-mindedness beyond our local community.

This value will be reflected in prayer, concern, partnership and generosity towards other Kingdom ministries. It is God’s Kingdom, not our own, that we are seeking.

Our church is committed to the full and final authority of the Bible as the revealed Word of God, inspired by the Spirit of God. At the centre of God's eternal plans revealed by His Word is His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Centenary Evangelical Church was planted through a partnership of churches in the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches (FIEC) network, with support from network partners. This plant is led by Benjamin Ho and Andrew Faulkner.
